Wireless Set Up The Internet is a gateway to our personal lives; an unsecured wireless router acts as a bridge for anyone to walk over. Securingyour wireless network is the firstline of defense to protecting yourprivate information from hackers and intruders. When you wireless network or Wi-Fi is secured, it willask for a password to anyone who wishes to use it. Without the password, the intruder will not beable to access your Internet. Difficulty: Moderately Easy Instructions Log In to Your Router 1. Connect your computer to the back of your wireless with an Ethernet cable. 2. Open a web browser. 3. Click the address bar of your chosen web browser and type inyour router's default IP address.Press "Enter." Find out your router's IP address from the manufacturer. 4. Enter your router's login details.Find out your router's manufacturer and model numberand see the link in Resources,"Goverment Security: Default Logins and Passwords for Networked Devices," to find out your router's default login details. Setting Up Your Wireless Security 5. Use the mouse to scroll throughyour router's home page. Click on a box labeled "wireless settings" or "wireless configuration" (depending on your router the wording may vary). 6. Click on a box called "SSID" or"network name." Type in your new wireless network name. Thisname will appear when searchingfor your wireless network. 7. Click on a box marked "Security settings." Click "OK" to activate WEP/WPA encryption. 8. Type in your new wireless Internet password. 9. Click "Save" or "Apply". This will save your new router settings and secure your network with your new password.
